YOU DON’T NEED ANYONE’S PERMISSION

Let me repeat that… You Don’t Need Anyone’s Permission. Or approval.

Don’t wait for it.

Don’t seek it.

As Nike says, Just Do It!

I’m not here to dispense wisdom on how you should live your life or give you a motivational speech.

But, I am going to tell you a story about needing permission or approval from others…

I’d never really thought much about this issue of ‘permission’ until I attempted to write a Christian Romantic Suspense novel.

It took me years to write SARAH: A Christian Romantic Suspense.

YEARS.

Part of the reason was that I was insanely busy with home renovations, another business to manage, and finishing The Royals series.

BUT, it was mostly because I was plagued with self-doubt and I kept asking myself: Who are you to write a Christian Romantic Suspense?

You don’t know the Bible well enough.

You didn’t grow up in Church.

You’re not ‘Christian’ enough.

So I started and stopped several times. And then the first draft was so bad that I rewrote the entire novel MULTIPLE times.

I felt like I needed someone to say to me: It’s okay, you know enough, you are a good Christian, you have permission to write this story.

But that didn't happen so I had a choice to make: give up and not write the book. Or, take a leap of faith, back myself, and just do it.

I chose the latter because no one was coming to give me permission.

And do you know what the craziest thing is? My Cold Case Christian Romantic Suspense novels are outselling the James Thomas series and The Royals series.

I’m sure there has been whispered criticism and probably some mocking comments made behind my back, but I haven’t heard it and I don’t care to hear it.

At my wise old age of 38 :) I’m doing what makes me happy and right now these are the kinds of stories I’m enjoying writing.

So, if there’s something you want to do, don’t want for approval or permission from others. Firstly, you’re probably not going to get it. And second, who is qualified to give it to you anyway?

It is your life, and YOU are responsible for it.

All I know is that at the end of my life I want to be able to look back and honestly say that I used everything God gave me.

Happy weekend my friends!
