A Day in the Life of a Writer

For those that don’t know, I have two jobs… I manage a dental practice and write romantic suspense and Christian romantic suspense books… So, depending on the week that means I usually work about 65 hours per week Monday-Saturday.

Here’s what a typical day looks like:

4:15am – Wake up, feed dogs, shower/dress, make lunches, tidy up house

5am – Emails/social media/bookkeeping for dental practice

8am – Gym

9am – Dog park 

9:45am – Dental practice management work

2pm – Lunch (usually at computer, finishing up any practice work)

2:30pm – Writing

4pm – Marketing for books

6pm – Walk/dinner

7pm – Emails for books, social media, family/friends time

8:30pm – Bed/reading in bed (Yes, I go to bed early! I aim to get 7 hours of sleep)

Depending on writing deadlines, etc, the balance of the day might shift. When I’m on a tight deadline I might write for five or six hours and when we’re short-staffed at the dental practice I might spend the entire day working for that business. Being flexible is crucial to being able to manage both roles.
